Unexpectedly Blindsided
Who would have thought it was possible to have big plans for a day and wake up and end up doing everything BUT what you had planned to do? Well that happened to me today. I was planing to work on several sites all day long and instead I woke up to a computer that pretty much decided to take the day off. To make a long story short, my computer is now twice as fast as it was this morning and I have a bunch of spare parts lieing around now.
It’s funny because I don’t usually upgrade my PC very often but I try to keep things fresh every two years. Well ironically, it’s been around two years since my last major overhaul and as everything turned out today I ended up replacing 95% of the hardware in my computer. The case is the same and the DVD-R drive is the same, but, that’s about it.
Now this could have been a major problem for me if I didn’t keep regular backups of everything, considering that my hard drive was one of the things that was acting up. The good news is that I make religious backups almost daily and I had just finished a full system backup the night before. I’ve been on the other side of this street before though and let me tell you it’s not fun. To this day there are still several files that I will never get back from a hard drive crash earlier this year that I was not prepared for. Computers are tricky machines and one bad component can often times effect many other parts in short notice. Let this be a reminder to everyone out there who hasn’t backed up their important data in a while… DO IT! Do it now. Make a backup schedule and keep to it. It’s so much easier than having to recreate lost files from scratch. Don’t believe me? Format your hard drive and see how quickly you can rebound.
